Bentonite

Bentonite, specifically Sodium Bentonite, is a natural clay mineral composed primarily of montmorillonite, known for its high swelling capacity, excellent water absorption, and gel-like behavior when hydrated. When mixed with water, bentonite forms a viscous slurry that can lubricate drill bits, control downhole pressure, and seal borehole walls to prevent fluid loss. It also assists in transporting drill cuttings to the surface.
