Bentonite

Bentonite

Bentonite, specifically Sodium Bentonite, is a natural clay mineral composed primarily of montmorillonite, known for its high swelling capacity, excellent water absorption, and gel-like behavior when hydrated. These properties make it ideal for controlling viscosity and stabilizing boreholes in various industrial applications such as oil and gas drilling, construction, and geotechnical engineering.

When mixed with water, bentonite forms a viscous slurry that can lubricate drill bits, control downhole pressure, and seal borehole walls to prevent fluid loss. It also assists in transporting drill cuttings to the surface.

Product Features:

  • High water absorption capacity

  • Expands upon hydration to seal borehole leaks

  • Increases drilling mud viscosity for effective bit lubrication

  • Functions as a natural filtration agent

  • Stable under drilling pressures

  • Easy to use and disperses well in water

Industrial Applications:

  • Drilling industry : Used to control viscosity and filtration in drilling mud systems, helping maintain borehole integrity and lubricate drill bits

  • Construction industry : Applied in diaphragm walls, slurry trenching, and tunnel sealing to prevent soil collapse and water ingress

  • Pet care industry : Used in cat litter for its strong odor and liquid absorption properties
